The Glint of Light on Broken Glass — The 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landings

Scary Stories Session 16 is all about the moon and the fascination we hold for our natural satellite. This session also happened to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landings.

While the session goes into some parts of the Moon Landing Conspiracy, it as quickly and readily debunks it. The evidence for the moon landings is definitive but perhaps conspiracy theories still abound because even now, 50 years on, it is the most incredible and positive feat of human endeavour.

For those born after 1969, they were born into a world where the moon landings were a fact as opposed to a dream. Today for so many generations, the pure splendour of witnessing those first steps is lost. It is a fact taken for granted, or questioned in its authenticity. Too often the wonder of space exploration, of stepping foot on another celestial body is far too easily lost. And with it we lose the unifying act of this mission. For one moment, humans were truly united in just that — their humanity. It is worth remembering this year in particular, of the wonder of the moon when we look up at it.
