In the Eye of the Beholder – The Nazi "Degenerate Art Exhibition"

Scary Stories Session 14 discusses the Nazi war on modern art. It culminated in the Nazi Degenerate Art Exhibition, where hundreds of the thousands of stolen and confiscated modern art works were displayed concurrently with the Great German Art Exhibition. One of the reasons for having the two exhibitions held at the same time was to obscure the weakness of the latter.

Around 740 artworks, of 20 000, were displayed together in a crowded dark space, designed to be as uncomfortable as possible. The artworks were displayed so as to show them in the worst possible light, though it still managed to attract large crowds.
